A new era of women’s basketball is underway at Langston University as the university has officially named Crystal Robinson as the next head coach of its women’s basketball program.
Robinson brings an impressive basketball résumé to Langston. A former first-round WNBA Draft selection, Robinson enjoyed a standout professional career with the New York Liberty and Washington Mystics before transitioning into coaching. Throughout her coaching career, she has gained experience at the high school, junior college, NCAA Division I, and WNBA levels.
Langston Athletic Director Donnita Rogers expressed excitement about the hire, noting that it is rare to bring in a former WNBA first-round pick and four-time Hall of Famer to lead a collegiate program. The university believes Robinson’s recruiting ability, player development skills, and leadership qualities can help elevate the Lady Lions to championship contention.
Robinson’s coaching journey has included stops with the Seattle Storm, as well as collegiate programs such as Utah State University and Texas Christian University. She also enjoyed success as a high school and junior college head coach in her home state of Oklahoma.
For Langston, the hire signals a major commitment to strengthening one of the premier programs in NAIA women’s basketball. Robinson now takes over with the goal of bringing the Lady Lions closer to the elusive NAIA national championship.
What it means: Langston didn’t just hire a coach—they hired one of the most accomplished basketball figures in Oklahoma history. Robinson’s name recognition, professional experience, and recruiting network could immediately boost the program’s profile on the national stage.
